After a long and restful summer holiday, Year 1 has jumped back into action, full of energy and ready to explore! Returning students have not only grown taller but wiser and even more curious about the world around them. In addition, we have been fortunate to welcome so many new enquiring minds to our cohort this year. Everyone has been busy building friendships and the buzz of hard work has been ever present in the classrooms.
As the weeks have flown by, our Year 1 students have demonstrated their growing independence, from navigating lesson transitions to making responsible and healthy choices at lunch.
In-between our eventful daily activities and lessons, such as Music, Swimming, P.E., and Library, we have enjoyed the week-long Obido Bookfair. It has been a joy to witness the number of children passionate about books and reading.
In line with our first Topic theme, the students engaged in questions exploring what defines a superhero and whether anyone has the potential to be one. Many students felt inspired to show off their superhero powers for being kind, helpful or an all-around Star of the Week. The theme culminated in a colourful Superhero WOW Day where students either came in costume or chose to dress as themselves, their very own superhero. What a super start to the year!

As Beijing transforms into an autumnal array of oranges, reds and yellows, we look forward to celebrating future WOW Days, exploring our Dinosaur and Toy themes, and continuing our Year 1 learning journey together.

The British School of Beijing, Shunyi Campus offers the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which is renowned for its active learning approach. This method is integral to early childhood education, providing young learners with a solid foundation for their future academic and personal development. At BSB Shunyi, active learning means children learn by doing — through a thoughtful blend of teacher-guided activities and independent exploration that develops both their academic skills and their love of learning.
The British School of Beijing recently hosted BritMUN 2025, a Model United Nations (MUN) event that highlights the exceptional organisational and leadership skills of our students. This year's conference was a remarkable success, attracting student delegates from many different schools across Beijing, including the British School of Beijing, the International School of Beijing, Dulwich College Beijing, and Beijing World Youth Academy.
