THE IB DIPLOMA AT BSB SHUNYI

BSB Shunyi’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme develops curious, active, and knowledgeable global citizens who have a lifelong passion for learning.

The IB curriculum comprises six International Baccalaureate subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and The Arts. Offering a broad choice of subjects allows each student to fully personalise their experience, in line with individual passions and interests. These specialist subjects are complemented by the IB core programme: Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and an Extended Essay.

Combined, these elements offer the best possible preparation for the rigours of university and adult life.

THE IB CURRICULUM MISSION STATEMENT

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme seeks to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who go on to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end, the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) works with schools, governments, and international bodies to create challenging programmes of international education. These programmes encourage students to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners with a truly international mindset.

THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME MODEL

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme we offer at our IB School in Beijing is a challenging two-year curriculum that culminates in a certification prized by the world’s top universities. It has two fundamental strands: specialist subject groups and the core programme.

Our IB Diploma learners study six International Baccalaureate subject groups: Language Acquisition, Language and Literature, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and The Arts. Three of these subjects are taken at higher level and three at standard level.

They also complete the core IB Diploma programme – Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service – to achieve their full Diploma.

The IB core program:

Theory of Knowledge (TOK): a course that explores critical thinking, giving students an understanding of how we learn.
The Extended Essay: a 4,000-word independent research project focusing on a specific subject or topic a student is passionate about.
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): a range of activities that nurture creativity, foster wellbeing, and provide opportunities to contribute to the community.
