Dear Parents,
Last week, the children had an incredible time on our Nursery Lion's Nature Trip. Despite the heat, their enthusiasm was infectious as they embarked on this exciting adventure.
Nature Trip Highlights
The children began their adventure by boarding the coach, excited to explore the Wild Explorers area at the park. Our morning kicked off with a fun tree identification game led by Mrs. Mertz, where she introduced two ferns and a baby lychee tree, igniting their curiosity about nature. The children enthusiastically became 'birds' or 'bugs,' showcasing lively competition and teamwork.
After the game, they enjoyed a nature walk along the Trace of Hong Kong Wild Animal Trail, briefly pausing at the beautiful lotus pond before diving into the Animal Trail, where wooden carvings of native animals captivated the children. They spotted fascinating creatures like a barking deer, a Chinese pangolin, and even a boa constrictor!
To cool off, the children explored the halls and exhibits. In the Rock Academy, they learned about local rocks and Earth's layers, including volcano formation. The Agriculture Hall revealed different plants and crops, while the Fisheries Hall featured models showing the journey of fish from boats to market, alongside interactive games.
As the Nursery boarded the bus back to school, it was clear that everyone had a fantastic morning. A huge thank you to our parent helpers who braved the heat with us!
The Benefits of Outdoor Learning
We are incredibly fortunate to have such enriching outdoor experiences right on our doorstep. Outdoor learning fosters a love for nature, enhances physical health, and encourages teamwork and social skills. Next year, we are excited to expand our Wild Explorers (Forest School) program across every year group, as part of our Outdoor Learning initiative at NAIS Sai Kung.
Transitioning to New Classes
This week, we are shifting our focus to transitions as we prepare the children for their move to the next class, year group, and campus. Over the next two weeks, the children will participate in various visits and 'getting to know you' sessions, helping them learn about their new year group and class. We will discuss the excitement of growth and change, ensuring that discussions around transitions are handled sensitively to provide firsthand experiences.
Here are the planned transition events:
Additionally, we are hosting parent information sessions:
Please do not worry if you cannot attend these meetings, as all the information will be shared with you on Friday, 20th June.
Ensuring Smooth Transitions
Our goal is to ensure that every child has a great start to the next academic year and settles confidently into their new class. We will provide all necessary support and resources to facilitate this transition, helping our children embrace the changes ahead.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to an exciting couple of weeks ahead!
Yours sincerely,
Ruth Hanson
