Spooktacular Learning & Magical Moments!

What a fang-tastic week it’s been in school! The children have been fully immersed in a world of wonder, creativity, and just the right amount of spooky fun.
Halloween Dress-Up Day and Party
On Friday, our classrooms were transformed into a parade of pumpkins, witches, superheroes, and all things spooky! It was truly delightful to witness the children’s excitement as they arrived in costume and saw their friends dressed up too. The joy and surprise on their faces created a magical atmosphere that set the tone for a day filled with laughter and imagination. We are so grateful to all our families for helping us create such a joyful and memorable celebration. A special thank you goes to our wonderful parent helpers, whose support made the party activities extra fun and engaging for the children.
Magical Potions & Spooky Creations
Throughout the week, the children have been busy crafting magical potions and designing both natural and man-made objects—everything from wands and witches’ brooms to spooky hats and plasticine pumpkins. These activities encouraged children to explore materials, textures, and shapes, enhancing their sensory development and fine motor skills. The process of cutting, designing, and crafting not only sparked creativity but also fostered problem-solving and perseverance.
Learning Through Children’s Interests
Using Halloween, a familiar and exciting interest for this time of the year, has allowed us to create rich, memorable learning experiences across the curriculum. In Maths, children created pictograms to chart their classmates’ favourite costumes and crafts, developing their Numbersense skills. In the Tinker Labs, they designed and built witches’ brooms and Halloween hats, exploring how to design and build using different materials and tools. In the role play areas, children explored language and storytelling, building their vocabulary and narrative skills through imaginative play. In music, we explored the dynamics of sound—loud and quiet, fast and slow, high and low—and how these elements can be used to create different moods; composing eerie soundscapes and imagining how spooky creatures might move, from fluttering bats to creeping skeletons, their musical interpretations were both imaginative and expressive. These activities, firmly rooted in children’s interests, deepen engagement and make learning truly come alive.
House Captains Announcement
This week, we will be announcing our new House Captains for the first half of the school year. These young leaders will be taking on exciting responsibilities, including leading our World Children’s Day celebrations on Wednesday 20th November. On this day, all children will participate in a STEAM House Challenge and a special House Assembly. Our House Captains will also be helping to gather student voice from our youngest learners—ensuring their thoughts and ideas are heard and valued.
Going Green Grant Success
A huge thank you to Mrs. Mertz, who has successfully secured another Going Green Grant from the Hong Kong Government! This means even more opportunities for gardening and growing across our campus. Children will engage in planting, nurturing, and observing plant life cycles, fostering environmental awareness and responsibility as well as the delight of planting and harvesting – something the Nursery children experienced last week, as they harvested another papaya and shared it across the campus!
Open Day Highlights
Last Saturday, we welcomed many prospective families to our campus for a successful Open Day. It was a pleasure to showcase our vibrant Early Years environment and share the magic of learning at NAIS Hong Kong. Visitors were impressed by the creativity, warmth, and enthusiasm of our staff and learning environment.
