Lots of wonderful learning has taken place in Year 4! We learnt a lot about Romans and how they invaded Britain. We also learnt about fractions and perimeters. We enjoyed learning about the Victorian Era and how this impacted on every child’s life to this day. We appreciate “just” being able to go to school so much more, now knowing that in the olden days, children had to work hard in factories.
State of Matter in Science
But the best unit was about State of Matter in Science! This really was a fun unit with loads of hands-on experiments and learning with DNA project. We started off by getting to know the three states of matter: gas, liquid and solid. We found examples from our everyday life e.g. what do we breathe, what do we drink, what is our phone made off? We also investigated how and why particles need to be organized in each state.
In our ‘balloon experiment” we were blown away by the effect of vinegar and baking soda. We put the two ingredients together in a water bottle, sealed it with a balloon and … waited. But we didn’t have to wait long to find the balloon blowing up. We also investigated the water cycle and how water changes its state. We made an experiment: we filled bags with water and found out that over time the water was evaporating. Now we understand the formation of rain!
We are looking forward to seeing more greatness from our amazing students in Year 4.
