THE HOUSE SYSTEM

At BSY, we have a flourishing house system that strengthens our community. Every child belongs to one of four houses. The houses have friendly inter-house competitions of sporting, academic, and community events, where they collaborate across year groups to earn points for their house.

HOUSES

There are four houses at BSY, each represented by a different house colour:

Normans - red, Saxons - green, Romans - blue, Vikings - yellow

Our admissions team puts each student into a house upon entry, and siblings belong to the same house. We aim for a balance of male and female students in each house and try to keep student numbers even.

Our house system helps students build their leadership through the role of House Captain. Primary and Secondary House Captains are nominated at the beginning of the year by the Student Leader Coordinator and teaching staff. With the assistance of the House and Student Leader Coordinator, the House Captains help to organise events, arrange their candidates, encourage their teams, and discuss strategy.

REWARDS

Throughout the year, students gain points for their house in the following ways:

Marbles (primary): Students can earn marbles for a positive attitude to learning and our school. They can earn marbles for showing honesty, dedication, and kindness.
House points (EYFS and primary): Students can earn house points for academic work (attainment and approaches to learning). Four house points are equivalent to one Merit in secondary school.
Merits (secondary): Students can earn merits for academic work (attainment and approaches to learning). Each merit is equivalent of four house points in primary school.
