Spring Festival is coming! This week we have been learning about the Spring Festival and all the wonderful activities and traditions of Chinese culture.
Students learned about traditional Spring Festival customs, such as preparations for festivities, the significance of red envelopes and hanging red signs around the doors. They also learned about traditional Spring Festival clothing and Chinese paintings. They practised the intricate Chinese paper cutting techniques to produce delicate and beautiful rabbits - the Zodiac sign.
To familiarise the students with the lunar year, they made the Chinese Zodiac - made up of twelve animals, one for each year in the cycle. They made Zodiac wheels with Chinese characters and decorations.
Students decorated their own Spring Festival clothing. Also, the children practised Chinese calligraphy using brushes and ink to draw gorgeous Chinese characters.
