After a longer break than expected away from school, it was a great feeling to see all the students and teachers back in school. You could feel the excitement in the air as students went back to their classrooms again, the playground was as vibrant as ever during break, and school lunches were BACK much to the joy of many students! It was just a month and a half, but for some, it felt a lot longer.
In Key Stage 1, we started back with the basic skills of badminton. Students were first faced with a few questions however before properly getting in the swing of things. What is badminton? Do we use a ball? Many students thought we were going to play tennis when shown the racquet, but they quickly came to understand what badminton is and some students even learnt the word ‘shuttlecock’ for the first time. We first practised how to grip a racquet by pretending to shake hands with it before moving on to learn underarm and overarm forehand and backhand strokes which the students performed exceptionally on. By the end of both lessons, students were more comfortable holding the racquet and hitting the shuttlecock.
In lower and upper Key Stage 2, we focused on gymnastics and started by learning some forward shoulder rolls and backward shoulder rolls, which for some students was their first time trying. We then learnt other skills such as an arabesque balance, 180-degree jump, and shoulder stand which students will incorporate into a small floor routine later this week.

Our Year 1 and 2 students shone bright at this year’s KS1 Sports Day, showing off their team spirit, determination, and impressive sporting skills! From running and jumping to throwing and space hopping – they did it all with enthusiasm and heart.
Our young adventurers in Year 3 took on two days full of fun, laughter, learning, and a touch of bravery on their Residential Trip this week. They returned with stories, smiles, and some seriously impressive new skills.
