Important Changes in School Catering - What You Need to Know

1

The Public Catering Act has been amended in Hungary, requiring us to change our school menus and meal offerings.

1. More Detailed Nutritional Information

Until now, we have provided precise nutritional values for each meal, allowing parents to monitor their children's diet. From now on, however, we must display the nutritional values for individual dishes rather than meal combinations. This includes calories, protein, fat, and carbohydrate content.

To ensure that the menu remains clear and easily accessible, a link will be published on the school’s website each week, leading to an Excel table containing all the required nutritional information in compliance with legal regulations. This table will provide a daily breakdown of the nutritional content for each menu option we offer.

2. Stricter Allergen Restrictions

Under the new regulations, the school catering service can no longer use the following ingredients:

  • Peanuts and tree nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, etc.)
  • Sesame seeds and products made from them

This change aims to reduce the risk of allergic reactions, as these ingredients are among the most common allergens.

3. Reduced Salt and Sugar Content

One of the key goals of the modifications is to further reduce the salt and sugar content in meals to promote healthier eating habits. We understand that adjusting to new flavours may take time, but we are committed to making these changes as tasty as possible by using natural flavour enhancers and spices.

These changes will contribute to your child's healthy development, and we are happy to assist you if you have any questions!
