Learning in Action Discovery Morning in Foundation Stage 3
Our students are always up for a challenge and this week they showed how well they rise to them by performing the school’s first Shakespeare production in the original text, ‘Romeo and Juliet’. This is the third collaboration between the English and drama department, aiming to bring to life the plays the students study in English.
The production explored the themes of the conflict between the generations, and the oppression of women. The cast, from Years 10 and 12, were outstanding with dazzling performances in both year groups. The relationship between Romeo and Juliet was portrayed touchingly by Bill Nguyen and Riona Carriaga who captured the naivety of the characters effectively. Gin To brought out the comic elements of the nurse’s character to great effect, but sustained a nuanced performance by also showing a warm mother-daughter relationship between her and Juliet. JK Kazzi’s interpretation of the Friar balanced a fatherly affection for Romeo with stern disapproval of his rashness.
Whilst these lead roles were prominent, they in no way eclipsed the other characters, who gave strong performances throughout. From the opening chorus roles to the ‘fiery Tybalt’, every member of the cast had developed a strong understanding of the language they were working with and were able to deliver their lines with expression. This has come only as a result of the hours of rehearsals they have put in since September. It has been a privilege for Ms Sargent and I to work with them and watch them develop their roles and their skills.

We are thrilled that four of our Year 13 students have recently gained offers from ‘Elite’ USA universities.
At BIS HCMC, leadership is more than just a title — it’s about inspiring others, fostering a sense of community, and embracing personal growth. This year’s Head Students, in Year 13, — Atom, JaeYeon, Tim, and Serena — embody these values with authenticity and dedication, each bringing their unique strengths, creativity, and passion to their roles.
We are thrilled to announce that a record three students from the BIS HCMC Class of 2025 have received offers from the University of Oxford, ranked number 3 in the world, and the University of Cambridge, ranked number 5 in the world. A huge congratulations to Quynh An, YeongSeo (Judy) and JaeYeon on their extraordinary achievement that sets a new benchmark for BIS students.
These achievements come as BIS students begin to secure outstanding offers from top universities around the world, including USA, UK, Australia and Asia and these numbers will only continue to rise as more decisions will be made over the coming weeks.
