This year in Primary, it’s time to celebrate all things factual with a selection of nonfiction books that will truly ignite the children’s passion for information and knowledge.
As well as promoting our love of nonfiction, this World Book Day, we are also thinking about some of the sustainable development goals. All children have already been asked to consider responsible production and consumption (SDG12) when creating their costume for World Book Day, so to create their costume using items that they already have at home. A prize will be awarded to a child in each year group for the most innovative costume.
This year, we will also consider SDG14 (Life Below Water) and SDG15 (Life on Land)- the nonfiction books we will look at have therefore been chosen because they will allow us to learn about life in our seas and oceans and discover the wonders of the natural world.
In Secondary, the theme is celebrating books, musical lyrics and drama. Students will get to perform and watch book readings, musical performances and drama re-enactments across Secondary.
Students can come dressed in festival clothing (bucket hats, customised t-shirts, denim, sunglasses, flower hats, glitter, etc.), and can also incorporate books and book characters into their look if they wish!
There will be a book quiz that students will have on the day to answer – with a raffle at the end of the day for the winners!
